<br />
The PAGENAME (NYI) is a group of Real Life Superheroes in New York City. They are the founding branch of The Initiative Collective. They became infamous for their unconventional approach to fighting crime and apathy, and for not employing superhero-style identities while working with the public. NYI co-founder Zero, in particular, continually eschewed the term "superhero," preferring instead "extreme altruist", or "X-Alt" for short. The NYI was featured in the Documentary "Superheroes" by Michael Barnett, which premiered in January of 2011 at the Slamdance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.<br />
<br />
Despite being initially denounced by members of both the RLSH community and law enforcement, many of the NYI's tactics have gone on to be utilized by similarly-minded individuals and groups worldwide, such as the use of "grey man" patrols and the teaching of self-defense skills to vulnerable people in at-risk areas.<br />
<br />
==History==<br />
<br />
<br />
===The Beginning===<br />
Founded on October 3, 2009, the original incarnation of the NYI was formed as a collaborative effort by Zero (PA), Zimmer (TX), Lucid (PA), and TSAF (Detroit, MI), who all relocated to New York for the express purpose of combating violent crime there. It was this lineup of the NYI that appeared in the "Superheroes" documentary.<br />
<br />
In this film, the group revealed their use of "bait patrols" to entice the homophobic and criminally-minded to reveal themselves by harassing an undercover NYI member (often Zimmer) - a tactic denounced by at least one NYPD detective as "entrapment."<br />
<br />
===Long Island Serial Killer===<br />
In April of 2011, in response to the Long Island Serial Killer's murders of 10 women, all sex workers, the NYI took out an advertisement on CraigsList, offering martial arts and improvised weapons training to sex workers, free of charge.<br />
<br />
===Branching Out===<br />
Finding like-minded members around the country, the NYI opened up its first satellite branch in Virginia in June of 2011, overseen by Ira Ui'Raghallaigh ("O'Reilly") and Deaths Head Moth. This also began the practice of abbreviating each new branch by using each's state abbreviation, followed by "I".<br />
<br />
In August of the same year, Zero offered another branch to established RLSH NightBug and Rock N Roll in Northern California, thus activating the third NYI offshoot: The California Initiative: San Francisco, and creating what would come to be known as The Initiative Collective. The CAI's use of superhero-style gimmicks would drive the NYI to experiment with personified members in other locations as the Initiative continued to expand across the country.<br />
<br />
===Occupy Wall Street===<br />
From early October to mid-November of 2011, the NYI became heavily involved with Occupy Wall Street. The group was approached and asked to provide organizational assistance and neutral security for the large encampment in Zuccotti Park, which was plagued by criminal activity both internally and externally.<br />
<br />
===Departures===<br />
According to co-founder Jack Zero, Zimmer left the NYI to return to Texas for a family legal issue. On March 4, 2012, Zimmer released a statement on her personal Facebook page addressing her departure from the team, further commenting that she "either quit or was kicked out, depending on who you ask. Suffice to say it was mutual.".<br />
<br />
TSAF left the group to pursue a career in cinematic production while founding member Lucid moved to Alaska to take care of his father. In April of 2012, he went on to co-found the California Initiative: Los Angeles with Deimos. NYI member Short Cut also joined the CAI:LA for a time thereafter.<br />
<br />
===Response to Anti-Gay Attacks===<br />
The New York Initiative began regular patrols of Greenwich Village and the West Village in June of 2013 in response to the killing of gay Harlem resident Mark Carson, 33, and several beatings of gay men across the city.<br />
<br />
===T.R.I.B.E. and the Hero Initiative===<br />
Due to ongoing internal tension, the NYI separated itself from The Initiative Collective as a whole - and from superhero-style imagery altogether - in 2013, and began using the name "T.R.I.B.E.". The resulting schism drove the remaining branches to adopt the name "Hero Initiative", and NYI member Spectre to assume management of the New York branch. After nearly two years, amends with Zero were made in late 2015, leading all branches to reunite under the original "Initiative" banner.<br />
<br />
===The Ronin===<br />
In April of 2016, on-and-off-again NYI member Dark Guardian left to start his own team, the New York Ronin, which eventually branched out into several satellite groups around the United States.<br />
<br />
===New Lineup===<br />
In December of 2020, the NYI showcased four members of its New York-based street team, featuring King Owl, D3V1L, Sig, and Apex.<br />

PAGENAME is a Real Life Superhero operating in Oakland, California. He is a member and co-founder of both the California Initiative: San Francisco and California Initiative: East Bay, two branches of the Initiative Collective.<br />
<br />
==History==<br />
Originally a member of the Pacific Protectorate, NightBug left the group in August of 2011. He and his wife, Rock N Roll, were in the process of forming another team when they were contacted by Jack Zero of the New York Initiative, asking if they would be willing to form the basis of a California-based branch of the Initiative. The two soon agreed, founding the California Initiative on August 18, 2011.<br />
<br />
NightBug also co-founded the California Initiative: East Bay with Rock N Roll on June 11, 2017, becoming the third branch of the Initiative to be founded in California. In June of 2018, Aaron Almanza (aka Shadarko) took over leadership of the SF branch in order for NightBug and Rock N Roll to focus on their newly-created Oakland branch. Both still work closely together.<br />
<br />
Along with co-host Impact of the Bay Coast Guardians, NightBug and Rock N Roll also host Heroes 101, a livestreamed show aimed at both RLSH and non-RLSH alike.<br />
<br />
==Trivia==<br />
* NightBug's distinctive mask was created by Dave Montgomery aka Insignis of the Black Monday Society.<br />
<br />
* NightBug originally coined the term "X-Alt," a shortening of the term "Extreme Altruist" - a concept originally brought forth by Andrea Kuszewski as being on the opposite end of the spectrum from a sociopath. "X-Alt" was an attempt at popularizing an alternate term for "real life superhero" for those who did not prefer either the "super" or "hero" portions of the latter term.<br />

<blockquote>"I am LightFist of the Xtreme Justice League. I wanted to be a real life superhero after being inspired by Shadow Hare at the age of 14. I remember Shadow Hare stating that to become a real life superhero you need to be martial arts trained and take fitness, so thats exactly what I did. By the age of 17, I reached out to the Xtreme Justice League after discovering their youtube channel and joined them on their quest to save the world. I picked this superhero name because I believe my fist will bring light to the world."</blockquote><br />

<br />
==History==<br />
After making some mistakes as a "ninja" persona years ago, the up-and-comer strived to change for the better and decided to adopt a new persona. He has been patrolling since March 2015, and specifically in Norfolk since September of 2015. <br />
<br />
From making music, birthday parties, convention appearances, homeless outreach, and many other things that he does, he strives to inspire people to "be yourself and do what makes you happy, never give up on your dreams and passions, because in the end we all die, but do we live? Do we accomplish the things that make us happy and make it count?"<br />
<br />
As of July 2022 only his Soundcloud profile remains.<br />

==Trivia==<br />
* NightBug's distinctive mask was created by Dave Montgomery aka Insignis of the Black Monday Society.<br />

PAGENAME is a Real Life Superhero and Team Leader of the Bay Coast Guardians. Originally from North Carolina, he now works in St Petersburg, Florida.<br />
<br />
==History==<br />
Ever since he was young, Impact has always had a desire to help people. Having parents who emphasized the importance of charitable giving, Impact grew up wanting to make the world a better place. He spent his time volunteering at soup kitchens and working with the disabled, as well as volunteering a year in Americorps*NCCC.<br />
<br />
Impact spent many years training in Traditional Shotokan and Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate-do, as well as Aikido. He also trained in lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR, and Wilderness First Aid.<br />
<br />
Impact first donned his mask in 2015, while completing graduate school. About a month after joining the RLSH movement, Impact contacted Mr. Xtreme of the Xtreme Justice League to set up an XJL chapter in the Triangle Region of North Carolina. XJL-NC has members in Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Durham, and Swansboro. Impact has also started an XJL chapter in Biloxi, MS, Xtreme Justice League: Mississippi Gulf Coast, and was formerly the Director of Region II of the XJL. <br />
<br />
He later relocated to St. Petersburg, FL, and in June of 2017 joined the Bay Coast Guardians as their Patrol Coordinator, successfully petitioning to make it the first XJL affiliate team.<br />
<br />
In 2021, the XJL leadership decided to downsize its teams to being solely located in San Diego, and all former affiliate teams, including the BCG, became independent. <br />
<br />
Impact, along with NightBug and Rock N Roll of the California Initiative, co-hosts Heroes 101, a livestreamed show aimed at both RLSH and non-RLSH alike.<br />
<br />
Impact also runs the RLSH location map.<br />
<br />
While in North Carolina, the homeless took to calling him "Spaghettiman", due to the cans of spaghetti Impact would include in his handout packs.<br />

PAGENAME is a Real Life Superheroine based in San Francisco, California. She is a co-founder of both the California Initiative: San Francisco and California Initiative: East Bay, two branches of the Initiative Collective.<br />
<br />
==History==<br />
Soon after her husband, NightBug, left the Pacific Protectorate, the two were in the process of forming another team when they were contacted by Jack Zero of the New York Initiative, asking if they would be willing to form the basis of a California-based branch of the Initiative. The two soon agreed, founding the California Initiative on August 18, 2011.<br />
<br />
Rock N Roll also co-founded the California Initiative: East Bay with NightBug on June 11, 2017, making it the third branch of the Initiative to be founded in California. In June of 2018, Aaron Almanza (aka Shadarko) took over leadership of the SF branch in order for NightBug and Rock N Roll to focus on their newly-created Oakland branch. Both branches still work closely together.<br />
<br />
She is also responsible for creating the all-female Superheroines Initiative, as well as S.T.A.N.D., an acronym for Superhero Tips And Networking Department.<br />
