    Summary

From Instagram: It was warm enough here in Winston-Salem that I had to break out my warm weather upper on tonight's patrol. I continued practicing what I've taken to calling proactive assistance. If I see someone who looks like they might need my help, I introduce myself, let them know that I don't want to assume but that I go around the city looking for people to help, and then I ask if they need my help. I did that tonight with a gentleman who seemed lost, and sure enough he needed information on bus routes and couldn't figure out how to get to his friend's apartment building. I gave him detailed instructions/directions and went ahead and gave him fare to get there and back as well. Always feels good to do things like that. Later in the night, I saw and heard some guys yelling and banging on the walls of a parking garage and heading toward the roof, so I followed them in. They eventually stopped fooling around and left, and I was gifted with a great rooftop view of the city for my troubles. Please remember that while we are all here to help each other, there will unfortunately always be those who are looking to do you and others harm. For that reason, I believe that it's vitally important for people to become aware of and train in self defense/MMA techniques. In a pinch, pepper spray and a stun gun will also help. I never patrol without all three things. So please, give proactive assistance a try where appropriate, and as always, stay safe out there. - Night Watch January 15th 2020
